Frustration was the main emotion for Crimson Tide fans after Alabama fell to Georgia in the CFP National Championship matchup.

Media pundits and outside voices considered 2021 as a “down year” for the Tide, but it won a Southeastern Conference Championship, crowned a Heisman Trophy winner (Bryce Young), and made the College Football Playoff.

Jalyn Armour-Davis, an Alabama alum, joined Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine on Monday via In My Own Words. As a former cornerback, Armour-Davis arrived in the Crimson Tide’s 2018 signing class. He endured injuries, but Armour-Davis was Alabama’s most consistent corner in 2021. He shared the team lead for interceptions (three) and helped the program advance to the CFP national title game. A native of Mobile, Ala., Armour-Davis recorded a time of 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He looks forward to a great career in the pros, but he views last year as a “success.”

"We're never in a down year" - Jalyn Armour-Davis SPEAKS for 2021 team about doubters

“As a team, it goes back to the message that I took from Coach Saban, which was how to get through adversity,” Armour-Davis said of Alabama’s 2021 season. “We had adversity from the beginning of the year. People expect you to win at the University of Alabama. They look at the results of you not winning a national championship, but before the season everybody suggested it was Alabama’s down year. It was Alabama could lose X amount of games, they have to replace all these starters, so is Alabama going to be Alabama? We came in being doubted from week one. We went through some close games, tough games. We lost a tough game, won some tough games, but every game it seemed like it was some type of doubt from outsiders. We wanted to prove to ourselves that we are never in a down year. It is never a rebuild year for Alabama, we just reload and have the same goals.”

Armour-Davis called 2021 a “historical” season, especially with Young winning the Heisman Trophy.

“It is not a season that anyone should view as a negative season,” he said. “We still are the SEC Champions in that same season. We still won a playoff game in the same season. We came just short of a national championship. So in my eyes, it was still a great season, but we just have to finish the end goal.”

Armour-Davis sees this year’s team reaching the end goal.
