Former Alabama player says let Bryce Young call plays, not Bill O’Brien

Bill O'Brien looks on as Bryce Young and Paul Tyson throw passes

Mike McCoy wants Bryce Young to call Alabama football’s offensive plays and not the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

McCoy is a former Alabama wide receiver. He has been very vocal since the Crimson Tide were defeated by the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday. After Young threw for 455 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort, McCoy feels the Crimson Tide should not let O’Brien make any calls moving forward.

“Offensive side of the ball, just let Bryce play,” McCoy said. “I would not even let him call nothing. Do not let the OC call nothing else. From this day forward, let Bryce run it. Let him be Tom Brady because any time he puts it in the hands of these coordinators, we are ass out.”

O’Brien became Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2021. Alabama’s offense averaged 488.3 total yards and 39.87 points per game under O’Brien in 2021. The Crimson Tide are averaging 45  points per game through seven games this season.
