The Indianapolis Colts had a franchise quarterback in Peyton Manning and one that could have been in Andrew Luck, if not for injuries.

Chris Ballard, the Colts’ general manager, wants a signal-caller for the future.

He does not want another stop-gap player at the position after experimenting with Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan.

Indianapolis, who finished 2022 at 4-12-1, will pick at the top of April’s NFL Draft. Ballard is willing to trade up to get the top quarterback in the class. Bryce Young won a Heisman Trophy, finished second all-time for career passing yards, passing touchdowns, and total touchdowns, and led the Crimson Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship and the College Football Playoff in 2021. The California native and former five-star is arguably the best prospect in the class and has the tools.

Trevor Lawrence, a former Clemson standout, is the best quarterback in the AFC South for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Young could reset the Colts as the best team in the division, but will Ballard draft him? The process to April will be interesting.
