Reggie Ragland reminisces on 2015 Bama coaching staff

Alabama has had a lot of talented coaches cycle in and out of its program since Nick Saban has been at the helm, but former Alabama linebacker Reggie Ragland believes the 2015 staff was top-tier.

The 2015 coaching staff is headlined by current Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart who served as Alabama’s defensive coordinator from 2008-2015. As Alabama’s defensive coordinator, Smart had the defense ranked top-1o in rushing defense, and scoring defense every year. From 2011-2012 the defense ranked No.1 in all of college football in rushing yards allowed, (72.1) total defense, (183.6) scoring defense, (8.2), and pass efficiency defense (83.69). Since then Smart has won back-to-back National Championships in 2021 and 2022 while coaching the Georgia Bulldogs.

As for the offense, Lane Kiffin was the team’s play caller from 2014-2016, providing a lot of entertainment on the sidelines. In 2014 he was a finalist for the Broyles Award, an award given annually to the nation’s top college football assistant coach. After a few years in Tuscaloosa, Kiffin opted to move on and coach at Florida Atlantic from 2017-2019 before he was hired at Ole Miss in 2020. Despite not being associated with the Alabama team anymore, Kiffin has stuck up for Saban and the program on multiple occasions since his departure.
