Kalen DeBoer says Alabama guard is ‘dinged up,’ did not play in scrimmage

Alabama football scrimmaged on Saturday on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium, and the injury bug appears to have hit the Tide’s offensive line.

The Crimson Tide’s head coach Kalen DeBoer said Alabama’s offensive guard, Jaeden Roberts, did not participate in the scrimmage due to an injury and gave an update after the scrimmage.

“We got Jaeden Roberts, dinged up in the middle of the week,” DeBoer said. “It’s just stuff we’re dealing with, and we’ll keep evaluating him, so, don’t expect it to be a long-term thing, but I don’t know his timeline necessarily.”

DeBoer did not give any specifics as to what the injury was.

Alabama’s offensive line has featured six guys getting the majority of reps this fall camp, with a competition brewing at each of the guard spots. Roberts has been rotating with Texas A&M transfer Kam Dewberry and Geno VanDeMark.

With Roberts out today, DeBoer shared which guard played where in the scrimmage.

“With Jaeden out today, the rotation was kind of those guys in there,” DeBoer said. “Left guard Kam, right guard Geno, so that was kind of our lineup. That’s more than likely what it looked like before camp, and you know, that hasn’t really changed much with the main core of six guys kind of competing for those spots more days than none.”

Efficiency from the offensive guard position has become even more crucial for the Tide now that Roberts is banged up.
