The right side was the wrong side for Alabama when it came to moving the ball on the ground during last weekend’s season opener at Florida State. With starting right guard Jaeden Roberts on the bench following his concussion in preseason camp, the Crimson Tide struggled when drawing up carries toward his usual spot on the field against the Seminoles.

Alabama attempted just six designed runs to the right side in its 31-17 loss to Florida State. Those rushes resulted in just 12 combined yards and no first downs on the afternoon. Outside of a 7-yard gain from Daniel Hill on Alabama’s first possession, none of the Tide’s right-sided runs gain more than 3 yards.

Here’s a breakdown of all six attempts and where things went wrong for Alabama.

First-and-10 from the Alabama 43-yard line | 13:48, 1Q

Alabama moved the ball well on its first possession. That includes a solid showing from the right side of its offensive line. Following a 6-yard run up the middle and a 12-yard completion to start the game, the right side would get its first opportunity on a first-and-10 from the Alabama 43-yard line.
