Kane Wommack knows the Alabama defense will have their hands full when they line up across from Gunner Stockton and the Georgia offense to open SEC play.
Stockton has steered the ship for the Georgia offense so far in 2025, leading the Bulldogs to a 3-0 start this season ahead of their anticipated matchup with Alabama.
The redshirt junior signal caller has completed 63 of his 89 passes for 721 yards and four touchdowns so far in Georgia’s undefeated start. Stockton has also provided a different dimension to the Bulldogs with his athleticism, scoring three touchdowns on 28 rushing attempts for 124 yards.
This production is why Alabama’s second-year defensive coordinator is impressed with the Georgia quarterback.
“I’ve been really impressed with their quarterback, Stockton,” Wommack said to reporters on Monday in Mobile at a 68 Venture’s Bowl event. “I’ve been really impressed with Gunner. Highly efficient in what he’s doing. I think Coach (Mike) Bobo’s doing a great job of kind of working the frame of what they do offensively within the framework of what Gunner does well. He runs the ball well. He does a really good job making decisions in the perimeter game. They’ve got some, I think they’ve upgraded their athletes out on the perimeter and in the receiving core and found ways to get guys in one-on-one positions to make space tackles and doing a good job in the run game changing it up a little bit, one plus quarterback stuff. So, they’ll present a lot of challenges for us. I thought they did a great job against Tennessee, had a really It’s a really good plan. if anything, you saw a team that had some grit when adversity hit on the road they answered the bell and that to me is, that’s an impressive job by their coaches and players to get that done. Something that we got to do a better job of.”
Wommack and Alabama’s defensive minds now use their bye week to come together to properly craft a game plan that limits Stockton and the Georgia offense ahead of their date with the Bulldogs in Athens.
