Alabama football’s true freshman defensive lineman, London Simmons is trending to be a viable contributor for the Crimson Tide, according to Kane Wommack and Alabama’s defensive staff.
Simmons has continued to earn playing time this season as the season progressed. He was initially set to be the Crimson Tide’s third string nose tackle this season behind Tim Keenan III and Jeremiah Beaman. Keenan going down before Alabama kicked off the season against Florida State, thrust Simmons into an expanded role in the first game of his career.
Beaman went down a week later, and Simmons made his first career start against ULM. The freshman remained in the starting lineup a week later against Wisconsin, taking full advantage of the snaps he got.
The 6-foot-3, 303-pounder has racked up six total tackles, including a tackle for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry this season. Wommack praised the true freshman on Monday.
“London continues to show up and does a good job,” Wommack said Monday to reporters. “When you’re going in a game where you have some early adversity like we’ve talked about, you wanna try to keep your older and experienced players in the game. And certainly, when you look at rotations, there’s times where our offense did a really good job of staying on the field. We won the time of possession battle. And so typically, you’re just naturally gonna have more of starters in the game and Tim (Kennan III) was doing a really good job in that situation. And sometimes you’re just not gonna pull him out as much. But London certainly, when you go back and watch tape, has earned the right to get more playing time, and certainly this week, I would imagine you’re gonna see more snaps from him.”
Look out for Simmons to be more involved on Saturday.
