The South Carolina defense has shown it can put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Dylan Stewart and Bryan Thomas Jr. lead this charge. Thomas has four sacks on the season, and Stewart is right on pace with him with 3.5 sacks.
Alabama was able to keep Ty Simpson upright on Saturday night against Tennessee, who entered the game leading the SEC in sacks as a team. The Tide were less effective against Missouri, who got to Simpson four times a week before.
The Alabama quarterback is now taken it upon himself to not let the pressure he may feel Saturday put the Tide offense in bad positions.
“Guys are long, physical, fast,” Simpson said. “It’s my job to get the ball out quickly, so I need to understand where they are at all times. And then two, understand I have to move up in the pocket and just know where those guys are at all times, what the down and distance is, what their type of rushing is on second and long or third and long, how they play on first down, stuff like that. They’re really, really good players. They’re front seven, they’re back end, long and physical. We need to come out and we need to be ready to go.”
Simpson has been sacked 12 times this season. Keeping him upright against South Carolina could play a pivotal role in the road game for the Crimson Tide.
