Alabama football’s starting quarterback Ty Simpson feels the Crimson Tide were hurting themselves Saturday against the South Carolina Gamecocks before they eventually stormed back in the fourth quarter to win 29-22.

The Tide went into the fourth quarter down by a point. Alabama’s offense had only scored one touchdown through two quarters to make the score 15-14 in favor of South Carolina after three quarters. A flip appeared to switch in the fourth, and Alabama’s offense scored 15 points to pull off the comeback in the final quarter.

Simpson feels Alabama was holding itself back early in the game.

“I wouldn’t say they were doing anything that hurt,” Simpson told reporters after the game. “We were just doing stuff that hurt ourselves. I missed a lot of throws. We missed a lot of runs that we block one more guy, it gashes them. It just was one of those nights. But super talented guys, great critical moment, and a win is a win. It’s hard to win in the SEC, and I’m not going to depreciate it or anything like that.”

The former five-star finished the game 24-of-43 with 253 passing yards and two touchdowns. Alabama had 325 total yards as an offense against the Gamecocks.
