Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack feels Nikhai Hill-Green played his best game of the season against LSU.
Hill-Green has continued to come on strong for the Crimson Tide as of late. The Colorado transfer has not started a game at linebacker, but he has been a key contributor as basically a 12th man for the Tide’s defense. He had five total tackles, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble against LSU.
Wommack feels the linebacker is putting his biggest strength on display at the moment.
“He’s playing some of his best football right now,” Wommack said. “The players, joke, they call him Unc, you know, he’s, I think he’s the oldest guy in our defense. And he’s 24 years old and, he’s just so solid and so steady. He knows where his eye progression is supposed to be. He knows where he’s supposed to be from a landmark standpoint, alignments pre-snap. He does all the things right before he has to make the play, so that he gives himself the best opportunity to make the play. He’ll tell you, I mean, he’s not the fastest guy out there. He’s not the most athletic guy out there, but he’s athletic enough. And his elite trait is his ability to diagnose before he has to go make the play. And he’s doing that at an elite level right now.”
Hill-Green recently stated he feels things have fully clicked for him while playing within the Kane Wommack system.
“This system really shows my versatility, and it allows me to make plays,” Hill-Green said. “It cuts me free and lets me play fast and make plays.”
Alabama’s inside linebacker room as a whole is one of the many strengths of a Tide defensive unit that continues to get better. Look out for Hill-Green to continue to make an impact.
