With Alabama falling victim to the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, it acquired its third loss of the season, putting its College Football Playoff hopes at risk. However, Ty Simpson is confident the Tide will hear its name called on when the College Football Playoff committee announces the official bracket on Sunday.
“Yeah, I’m not nervous at all,” Simpson said. “I think our resume speaks for itself. We went through a gauntlet of a schedule, the SEC, the best conference in the country. That’s a really good team. That’s pretty much as simple as that, right? We went through a tough schedule, and we’re the most resilient team in the country. And everything, you know, our resume speaks for itself.”
It was a rough offensive showing from the team throughout the entire night. Simpson finished with 212 yards after completing just 19 of 39 pass attempts. He finished with one touchdown, one interception and less than a 50% completion rate.
The Crimson Tide also struggled to get the rush attack going with running backs Jam Miller and Kevin Riley out. The Tide finished the game with negative three rushing yards; however, that number is slightly skewed by the six sacks that Simpson took, which accounted for -28 yards. But in the end, Alabama’s leading rusher, Daniel Hill, still only finished with 11 yards.
Simpson also spoke about the offensive struggles following the loss.
“We have a standard,” Simpson said. “As an offense in general, we think that, we know, actually, we know we’re the best offense in the country. And then when we don’t show it, it’s very frustrating, especially times when we’re just a couple of plays away. Like I said, credit the Georgia defense. Like they had a good plan. That’s pretty much as simple as that.”
Although Simpson and the offense may feel like it was just a couple of plays away, and although the deficit was only 21, when watching the game, the score did not portray how unprepared and lost the Tide looked.
Alabama struggled the entire night, and the Tide never quite made it feel as though the game was close. After losing 28-7 as the No. 9-ranked team in the country, Simpson and the team will hope that its resume does the talking on Sunday.
