Nick Saban was a part of a high profile golf game last week when he took to the course with fellow former head coach Urban Meyer, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump.

Saban, who has been a prominent voice in getting the government involved for further regulation within college football, had 18 holes to continue to give his pitch to the man in charge. But what did Saban and Trump actually discuss?

Trump hinted at what the four spoke about during an interview on Josh Pate’s College Football Show on Monday and it turned out that Saban and Meyer were more interested in discussing politics.

“They talk to me about politics, really. More so than football. They liked politics,” Trump said. “They’re all obviously very highly competitive people. But I would say, for the most part, we’re talking politics. They want to know what’s happening with Iran. ‘What’s happening? How did you do that with Venezuela?’ It was pretty good. You know, that was very, very successful to put it mildly, but they, they always want to seem to.

“Because I play with a lot of athletes, a lot of coaches, you know, I play golf. I’m a good golfer and some of them are good, some of them aren’t very good, but doesn’t matter one thing in golf. It doesn’t really matter. That’s why they have handicaps, but they always want to talk about politics.”

Although the main topic was closer to foreign policy than NIL regulations, Saban has had several conversations with Trump in hopes to gain momentum for more oversight over college athletics.
