In-state program surprising Spain Park 2027 Edge with hard push

Marquis “MJ” Evans is beginning to see his recruitment take shape as several powerhouse programs remain in contact.

Evans, who stands at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, says no program has fully pulled ahead just yet, but Auburn has made a strong impression after making changes to its staff under Alex Golesh.

“I wouldn’t say anybody is necessarily standing out in terms of leaning toward someone,” Evans told Touchdown Alabama. “But a school that has surprised me is Auburn because since the new staff came in, the relationship has grown a lot.”

Evans currently holds interest from Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Auburn — all programs known for developing elite defensive linemen at the collegiate and professional levels.

“I think Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Texas and Auburn all have great history with having a good defense and developing d-linemen at the highest level in the past and currently,” Evans said.

While Auburn has taken an early step forward, Evans also noted that Alabama remains involved and continues to build its relationship with him.

“Alabama has still been doing what they can to hold a good relationship, and I look forward to seeing how they handle things at spring practice,” he said.

When asked about official visit plans, Evans confirmed that Auburn is the only school he has scheduled at this time.

“Auburn is the only one,” Evans said.

With his combination of size, strength and upside at the EDGE position, Evans is quickly becoming one of the top defensive prospects in Alabama’s 2027 class.

At 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, Evans fits the mold for the type of defensive linemen a lot of top programs are going after at the moment. He is versatile, has great length and can get after the football with great backside pursuit.
