For those still not familiar with defensive coordinator Kane Wommack’s lingo, the Husky position is a hybrid role in Alabama’s defense. Similar to the Star in Nick Saban’s setup, the Husky role is the fifth defensive back in the Crimson Tide’s nickel formation and calls for the defender to serve as a mix between a linebacker and a safety.
“It’s such a versatile position, we’ve talked about that before,” Wommack explained last week. “You’ve got to play man, you’ve got to play blitz off the edge, play the run fit, zone drop, all those things.”
