Next Saturday, Alabama football will have their annual A-Day inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, and after the news that the Crimson Tide are returning to a scrimmage format, head coach Kalen DeBoer shared some more specifics about what to expect next weekend.
Instead of splitting the roster into two teams, Alabama will have the offense scrimmage the defense for most of A-Day.
“I don’t like splitting the teams,” DeBoer said on Friday. “I want guys working with guys and taking advantage of every practice we can.”
For Alabama’s second scrimmage of the spring, DeBoer confirmed that the Crimson Tide scrimmaged the whole time, and he reviewed what Alabama did for the first scrimmage a few weeks back.
“Last week, we did a little bit of thud and then scrimmaged probably about 80% of it, so we’ll just kind of see as we get through the week, see where we’re at,” DeBoer said. “So, that’s what most of it will be. There’ll be a lot of scrimmaging. We’ll do what we probably did today.”
The Crimson Tide did not scrimmage during last spring’s A-Day due to injuries, and DeBoer made the decision to turn it into a practice. DeBoer ran with the original A-Day format in his first season as the Alabama head football coach. Now, Alabama returns to a scrimmage format that is modified.
A-Day will be next Saturday, April 11 inside Bryant-Denny Stadium at 1 p.m. CT.
