Alabama football’s quarterbacks were not at their best in the Crimson Tide’s second scrimmage of the spring, according to Kalen DeBoer.
The Crimson Tide’s coaching staff attempted to split the reps between Austin Mack and Keelon Russell pretty evenly during the scrimmage.
“They split it up pretty even,” DeBoer said while discussing the snaps each quarterback got. “That was the goal. I’m not sure how it exactly ended… But they’ve been splitting it.”
DeBoer went on to discuss why he felt it was not the best day for the quarterback group.
“I would say today wasn’t their sharpest day,” DeBoer said. “A lot of it’s what we’ve been talking with the offensive line. I think there’s just getting in sync with guys… the things that we have as part of our base offense that we’ve done now for two years here, you can see everyone being in sync, and when you’re playing with confidence, you’re going to rip it with confidence. And there’s some of the new stuff that maybe isn’t even things we’ve had until this year or done as much of until this spring, you can see that we struggled with it.”
The Alabama head coach remains confident in both quarterbacks, despite Friday not being their best day.
“I’d say it wasn’t up to the standard that they’ve had, but there’s no doubt that if we had to play a game, there are some things that they do really well that we’re confident in, that they can execute at a high level,” DeBoer said.
The Crimson Tide will close out spring practice at A-Day on April 11.
