The NFL Draft is next week, yet the hype around Ty Simpson as a potential first-round selection has not died.
Cleveland Browns HC discusses relationship with Ty Simpson
No matter where one turns, a different NFL Draft media pundit is discussing the former Alabama quarterback as a first-rounder. Some have started a conversation about how it would be wrong on the league to have Simpson go below the first round. His lone season as a starter for the Crimson Tide did not end how he wanted it to; however, he put on a show at the beginning of the year.

Simpson has the traits to be a next level signal-caller.
He finished the 2025 campaign with 3,567 passing yards and 28 touchdowns to five interceptions. In Alabama’s regular season gauntlet versus Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, and LSU, Simpson tossed 12 touchdowns to one interception. He is very good at processing information, carries elite accuracy, and is an exceptional leader within the huddle.
Simpson could have transferred to a different college football, but he chose to turn professional after the 2025 season – leaving his legacy as a captain forever in place at Alabama. Christopher “Beanie” Wells, a former Ohio State running back, compared Simpson to one of the top quarterbacks in the league right now.

He has the highest ceiling of any QB in the draft. He has a big arm. He reminds of Josh Allen.”@BeanieWells26 praises @AlabamaFTBL QB prospect Ty Simpson pic.twitter.com/afx9xYLINn

“I think the NFL would be absolutely crazy to let him get out of the first round,” Wells said of Simpson. “I believe he gets drafted in the first round. He has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in the draft. He has a big arm and reminds me of Josh Allen. He is someone that throws guys open who is sneaky athletic. He is going to be a star in the making.”
Allen, a former Wyoming star, was taken at No. 7 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
He has been the face of the Buffalo Bills’ franchise, earning his first career NFL Most Valuable Player honor in 2024.
Allen is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time second-team All-Pro honoree. The 6-foot-5 specimen has had Buffalo in the Super Bowl conversation in the last few seasons, but is trying to finish it out. Simpson has the arm talent and athleticism to match Allen, yet it will be interesting to see which team takes him. The draft begins next Thursday for Simpson.
