One former college football wide receiver woke up and chose, “I want my money from all the entities that got rich off my name, image, and likeness.”
Alabama DB coach sends message to recruits after successful NFL Draft
That player was Jameson Williams, a former wide receiver for the University of Alabama and Ohio State University. According to a report from the California post, the former first-round selection of the 2022 NFL Draft has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, Southeastern Conference (SEC), and the Big Ten for failure to properly compensate him for his name, image, and likeness.

Williams played two seasons at Ohio State (2019-20) before finishing his collegiate career in 2021 with the Crimson Tide. He turned in an incredible season for Alabama with 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 14 touchdowns – helping the Tide capture an SEC Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Williams suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear to his knee in the national title matchup against Georgia; however, he was still selected at No. 12 overall in the draft by the Detroit Lions. He is now an explosive weapon in the pros, yet Williams still wants the finances owed to him from college NIL.
Williams is suing for violation of the Cartwright Act, violation of the Unfair Practice Act, violation of the Sherman Antitrust, and violation of the Lanham Act.
We will see what becomes of this situation.
