Nick Saban tells how much Alabama’s NIL collective spent each year over the last 5 years

Nick Saban revealed how much the University of Alabama NIL collective has spent over the last five years during his testimony for the Protect College Sports Act.

Saban said the amount spent has continued to rise.

“Let me give you the history,” Saban said. “My first year, we had collective at Alabama, $2.7 million. Next year, $7 million. Next year, $10 million. I retired. Next year, $17 million. Next year, $24 million. Now you have schools that have close to $40 million rosters. So, if we continue to do that, we’re going to lose Olympic sports, we’re going to lose non-revenue sports, we’re going to lose scholarships. Basically, what’s going to happen is you’re going to have football and basketball succeed, and we’ll have club sports for everything else.”

Saban retired from coaching college football after the 2023-2024 season. However, he only coached the Crimson Tide for a few years during the NIL era. The ability for college athletes to make money off their name, image and likeness has shaken up the landscape of college athletics.

The former Alabama head coach is now one of the leading voices making a push to create and enforce stricter rules regarding NIL.
