Alabama’s wide receiver room entered fall camp unproven outside of Ryan Coleman-Williams and Lotzier Brooks, largely because its next most experienced option at the position is in street clothes.
NC State transfer Noah Rogers suffered an injury during A-Day this past spring leaving a gap on the outside for whichever quarterback will be under center this fall. However what is considered a gap to some is opportunity to others.
Nonetheless, Alabama is feeling the sense of urgency to step up and find a replacement for the injured Rogers who had been impressive before going out with injury.
“Noah was balling, for sure,” wide receiver Rico Scott said at media day Saturday. “His injury’s unfortunate, but he’s been great recovering. He’s working hard every day to get back out there. We definitely have to pick up the slack a little bit because he’s another extra playmaker we have with the offense I wouldn’t say we’re slim, but there’s definitely a sense of urgency that comes with that.”
Before joining the Crimson Tide, Rogers was a solid contributor to the Wolfpack throughout his first two seasons. During his final year he posted 33 receptions for 441 yards and two touchdowns.
Scott is also eyed as one of the players competing to step in for Rogers. The junior arrived at Alabama in the class of 2024 as a four-star recruit out of Bishop McDevitt. Throughout his first two seasons, Scott has primarily been a reserve option catching 16 passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns across his 19 appearances.
Despite reports that he would be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal alongside several other former members of the Crimson Tide, Scott opted to remain in Tuscaloosa to further develop under head coach Kalen DeBoer.
“I still felt like Alabama was the best place for me to develop,” Scott said. “I love the guys that I am playing with. I ultimately had to keep the main thing the main thing. That is ultimately why I decided to stay.”
Alabama will return to practice Monday, Aug 10 as it looks to find new options in the receiver room.
