What separated Alabama for Virginia Tech transfer linebacker

Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Caleb Woodson will play a massive role throughout his first season in Tuscaloosa this year.

Woodson originally transferred from Virginia Tech to Alabama in early January, and the linebacker has solidified himself in a starting role to begin the year. The senior was an essential component on the Hokies’ defense across the last three seasons, and Woodson now finds himself in prime position to shine with the Tide in 2026.

Woodson recently took a moment to comment on his transition from Virginia Tech to Alabama this offseason, as the linebacker claims everything has been excellent so far.

“I think it’s been great.” Woodson said. “Kind of in the change it’s unknown, but being here has been great. From the summer workouts to now we are in fall camp getting ready for the season. Everything’s been great.”

Woodson continued to reveal the most difficult part of his transition to Alabama so far, while also giving his reason behind the transfer.

“Just the caliber that everyone holds themselves to, it’s Alabama,” Woodson while discussing why he chose Alabama. “It’s the top of the top, so just being held at that standard all the guys want to work everyday. There’s not a day where it’s like come on, come on, everyone’s in and wants to make it to that next level.”

Moving in is what Woodson pointed to as being the most difficult part of his transition to Alabama.

“I would honestly say just moving all my stuff, getting everything in a moments notice to my apartment up here. But it’s been great, everything has been smooth and great,” said Woodson.

Woodson recorded 152 total tackles, 11.5 TFL and one interception over three total seasons at Virginia Tech. The linebacker has flashed his talent on countless occasions during fall camp, and Woodson appears to be settling in nicely following his chaotic offseason in the transfer portal.
