Alabama native puts explosive performance on display in 2nd scrimmage

Kevin Riley, a former 4-star, is crafting a case to be Alabama's starting RB in the fall.

Alabama native and Crimson Tide running back Kevin Riley had an impressive performance in Alabama’s second scrimmage of fall camp ahead of the 2026 college football season, Touchdown Alabama was told.

Riley is a former four-star running back out of Tuscaloosa County High School in Alabama. He is coming off a season where he had 224 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on 59 carries. The junior also pulled in 19 catches for 176 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown last year. He played in 11 games and started two of those matchups.

Touchdown Alabama was told Riley broke several runs  during the scrimmage and ran in the first touchdown of the day.  At 5-foot-11 and 198 pounds, Riley looked to be the Crimson Tide’s most explosive back during the scrimmage, viewers say. This was no surprise to hear considering how dynamic he was at Tuscaloosa County.

Kalen DeBoer highlighted Riley during the offseason because of his willingness to continue to ‘grow and get bigger.’

Alabama sophomore running back AK Dear is expected to miss some time early in the season. His absence will likely put Daniel Hill and Riley as the Tide’s led backs early in the upcoming season. Trae’shawn Brown, who is a freshman running back, will likely be in the mix for some carries as well. It is unclear where EJ Crowell fits in this pecking order at the moment after he was held out of Thursday’s scrimmage.

The running back room and Riley will meter the 2026 season with the challenge of showing improvement after a lackluster 2025 campaign as a group.
