Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters on Monday that a freshman wide receiver “certainly” has to be a part of the mix in the receiving core this year.
Freshman Cederian Morgan made a handful of plays in Alabama football’s scrimmages and looked solid in fall camp, and the Crimson Tide will use him in 2026, per DeBoer.
“Cederian’s certainly got to be a part of the mix there in the receiving core just with the skill set that he has, and I think he’s learned a lot,” DeBoer said. “He’s grown. He understands the difference between high school [and college], and all our guys that come in as freshmen, they’re starting to understand the difference between it’s just not a couple weeks of fall camp and you’re the highlighted guy. ‘We’ll work around you.’ I mean, he’s had to earn it, and it’s not just offensively, but we need him in special teams roles at times.”
Morgan is a guy that DeBoer talked about at SEC Media Days. DeBoer said Morgan is a guy who could, “have an impact that is significant and one that’s needed to help our football team.”
DeBoer believes the former four-star wide receiver is a guy that has all the tools to make an impact early in his collegiate career.
“The intensity and sustaining that level of intensity is something that I think he and all of our other freshmen have learned,” DeBoer said. “He’s got the tools and the skill set to go out there. He can play big. Now, it’s just a matter of getting some snaps under his belt so he can play confident.”
Alabama will host East Carolina on Sept. 5 at 11a.m. CT.
