Alabama defensive lineman Devan Thompkins will more than likely play a massive role throughout his first season in Tuscaloosa this year.

Thompkins transferred to Alabama this offseason after spending the first four years of his collegiate career at USC. The talented big man was widely regarded as one of the top defensive lineman available in the transfer portal prior to his Crimson Tide commitment, and Thompkins should quickly emerge as a key contributor in a handful of ways moving forward.

The former USC star recently took a moment to reveal his reasoning behind transferring to Alabama, as Thompkins claims he felt that a change of scenery was necessary.

“I did four years at USC, graduated over there.” Thompkins said. “I had great times over there, I just felt like it was something that hit me that it was something different I needed. So I decided to weigh my options out, and Alabama came up on top.”

Thompkins recorded 56 total tackles, nine TFL and 4.5 sacks across his four seasons on the Trojans’ defensive line. The talented senior has flashed his versatility across fall camp as well, and Thompkins appears to be thriving after his decision to leave USC.
