Alabama wide receiver says to get ready for big plays from Keelon Russell: “You haven’t seen nothing yet”

Derek Meadows feels the Alabama fan base needs to buckle up and get ready to see some exciting plays from Keelon Russell.

Russell made his starting debut against East Carolina and led the Tide to a 48-10 win over the Pirates. The quarterback threw for 256 yards and completed 18 of his 30 passing attempts. He also rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Meadows, who caught three passes for 44 yards against the Pirates, feels more exciting plays are coming to the Alabama offense soon as a result of Russell being QB1.

“You haven’t seen nothing yet,” Meadows said. “I’m excited to see him just keep growing and keep growing inch by inch, every game. He’s doing a hell of a job, so I’m very excited for him. And just watch. You guys are gonna be very, very excited to see him ball out.”

Russell evaluated his performance after his first start.

“The biggest takeaway is just operational speed, in and out the huddle,” Russell said. “I’ve gotta be a little bit better on that. I’m gonna criticize myself on that just because I don’t look at myself as a freshman. I look at myself as a veteran. I wanna just thank the guys for just sticking in with me, not giving up on me. The linemen, they were phenomenal today. The receivers they were phenomenal today, and I could do better on myself on my behalf.”

Russell will start in his first SEC game this weekend when the Tide takes on Kentucky on the road.
