Kalen DeBoer gives injury updates on Alabama players before Georgia game

Alabama Linebacker Justin Hill (8) in action against Eastern Carolina University at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday, Sep 5, 2026.

Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer shared with reporters on Monday the status of multiple injured Alabama players ahead of this weekend’s game versus Georgia.

DeBoer gave updates on right tackle Jayvin James and linebackers Desmond Umeozulu and Justin Hill.

“Jayvin, we were optimistic he can return this week,” DeBoer said. “We’ll kinda see as the week goes on. Desmond, he’s continuing to work back but probably will not be ready for this week. Probably a couple more weeks. Justin Hill, just working back from his lower-extremity injury. He’ll be back this season too, but more than likely not this week.”

At right tackle, Tyrell Miller has stepped up to play in place of James, and a supporting cast of defensive players have taken the snaps that Umeozulu and Hill would have if they were available. Yhonzae Pierre has been the starter at the wolf linebacker position, and behind him is Jah-Marien Latham, a senior that has taken more snaps in Hill’s absence. Umeozulu was playing at the Bandit position some, and a guy like Fatutoa Henry has gotten more snaps at that position behind starter Devan Thompkins.

No. 6 Alabama will host No. 2 Georgia this Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be on ABC.
