Fall practice for Alabama football starts this week, and the quarterback conversation remains pivotal.

The Crimson Tide has three names vying for the starting job — Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, and Tyler Buchner —  but which one gives the program the best option of winning a national championship. A couple of sports betting sites have Simpson, a redshirt freshman, winning the job. Some national media pundits for college football believe Buchner, a transfer from Notre Dame, is the best option for Alabama. We will find out soon; however, Simpson continues to prove himself by putting in more work.

The Tennessee native was with his father, Jason Simpson, over the weekend honing his passing abilities.

He got some throws in with his Alabama gear on. Simpson, a former five-star from Westview High School, has the potential to operate a balanced offensive attack for the Tide. He can make short, intermediate, and deep throws downfield to open the Tide’s rushing attack. Simpson also has the athleticism to extend plays with his feet and make defenders respect his running ability.

He’s taken the offseason to get better after having little to no experience in 2022. People like what Simpson brings, but it will become interesting to see if he secures the starting role. Alabama opens its season at Bryant-Denny Stadium versus Middle Tennessee State on Saturday, Sept. 2.
