The University of Alabama pulled two defensive backs from the NCAA transfer portal in the spring.
Nick Saban likes both players and sees them making an impact. Trey Amos, a cornerback from Louisiana-Lafayette, brings experience with the Crimson Tide losing Jahquez Robinson and Tre’Quon Fegans to other schools. Amos played in 34 games across three years for the Ragin’ Cajuns, totaling 59 tackles, 2.5 stops for loss, 14 pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick. He played football and basketball at Catholic-New Iberia High School in New Iberia, La. Amos helped the program to a state championship in 2017, but he’s now focused on assisting the Tide to a College Football Playoff national title.

The 6-foot-1, 197-pounder has the length, athleticism, and ball skills to be a coverage cornerback.
Coach Saban has several guys in the secondary training at different positions, including Terrion Arnold and Malachi Moore.
He wants his best guys on the back end to create turnovers, and it could give Amos an opportunity. Arnold, a third-year cornerback from Florida, spoke highly of Amos during Thursday’s media availability for players. After earning Freshman All-Southeastern Conference and Freshman All-American honors, the redshirt sophomore is working at corner and ‘Star.’
“He has brought a lot of fire to the group,” Arnold said about Amos. “He has made us a better secondary. He brings a girt and toughness to the game, and he’s like the rest of us in the group. He is a perfectionist. We all gel well together.”

Alabama has a secondary that wants to get things right. Amos is in a talent group, but he has a chance to make an impact at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday in the team’s first scrimmage of fall practice.
