Some want to see what he does against Georgia’s defense, but many Alabama have begun to trust Tommy Rees.
The 31-year-old has the Crimson Tide’s offense clicking after a slow start at the beginning of the season. He has adjusted to Nick Saban in his first season with the Crimson Tide and has infused confidence in Jalen Milroe. The sophomore quarterback is playing its best football, especially with Rees dialing up design runs, zone-read option, and plays where Milroe can use his feet.

He’s also blossomed in the passing game, totaling 16 touchdowns and 2,070 yards.
Rees’ coaching has Milroe in the Heisman Trophy conversation, and Alabama’s offense has scored 40+ points versus three Southeastern Conference teams. The Crimson Tide is coming off back-to-back 40+ point games against Louisiana State University and Kentucky. Alabama is seeing continuity in its rushing attack and passing game at the right time under Rees.
He has been named as a nominee for the Frank Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top assistant coach in college football.

The Tide has had three assistant coaches win the Broyles Award since 1996. Kirby Smart (2009, defensive coordinator), Michael Locksley (2018, offensive coordinator), and Steve Sarkisian (2020, offensive coordinator) were the coaches to win it.
Rees has a chance to capture the award if he continues to propel the Tide’s offense forward.
