Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard made some interesting comments when asked about steps Alabama has taken this offseason to improve last year’s disappointing 9-4 season.
“Going into this year, we harped on being a player-led team more than a coach-led team,” Bernard said, “I think it’s been a lot more togetherness. I think that we revisited the standard, and we know what it’s going to take to withhold that standard.”
Bernard is one of several Alabama players that chose to return for their senior season instead of entering the NFL Draft. He is joined by teammates LT Overton, Tim Keenan III, Jam Miller, Keon Sabb, Deontae Lawson, and Domani Jackson.
The Alabama standard was created during the Saban era. It seems apparent that Bernard and his teammates are eager to help Alabama return to its old ways of competing for SEC championships and winning national titles.
There seems to be a lot of motivation and leadership inside the Alabama locker room this spring. It will be interesting to see how the team uses that heading into a critical season for the future of Alabama football in 2025.
