Alabama DB Bray Hubbard responds to viral clip of him jogging vs. FSU

After Alabama lost to Florida State in week one, a viral video circulated on social media of defensive back Bray Hubbard jogging on a play where the Seminoles scored a touchdown.

It appeared as if Hubbard could have tackled the Florida State player and prevented a score if he would have sprinted, and chaos ensued immediately after the video was shared online. The video has surpassed over 3 million views, and that has led to Hubbard receiving a heavy dose of criticism from fans, media members and former players.

On Tuesday, Hubbard shared his response to the viral video.

“You ever poured gas on a fire?” Hubbard said. “It’s like that. My phone’s blowing up. I mean, I don’t really care. It’s part of it, but it’s just fuel to the fire, so at the end of the day, that’s all it is.”

Against ULM, Hubbard tapped into the version of himself that fans saw in 2024, flying around the field and making plays. Although he did not play the whole game since the Alabama defense rotated a lot of players in and out, Hubbard was able to make three tackles, including a tackle for loss.

“Yeah, I took it personal,” Hubbard said. “It’s on me. Coaches see it. I saw it. It’s obvious. I take it on myself.”

Hubbard is one of Alabama’s most experienced defensive backs as the Crimson Tide are playing a few sophomores and freshmen this year, but he’s also taken his leadership role on the team to a higher level, filling in for Tim Keenan III as a team captain while Keenan recovers from his injury and joining captains Ty Simpson, Deontae Lawson and Parker Brailsford in leading the team in pregame stretches.

“Bray’s a dog,” cornerback Zabien Brown said. “I see it every day, every week. That’s just who he is. He plays hard and I’m glad to call him my teammate.”

Alabama will face Wisconsin this Saturday on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
