DeBoer compares Alabama 5-Star signee to former first round pick

Kalen DeBoer feels Alabama football’s five-star signee, Xavier Griffin reminds him of Jihaad Campbell.

Griffin is a 2026 five-star edge prospect, who is expected to play multiple linebacker positions for the Tide. He attends Gainesville High School in Georgia, but he is a native of Alabama. DeBoer is excited to have the athletic prospect en route to Tuscaloosa.

“X is a guy that’s a flex guy,” DeBoer said. “I mean, really see him as like a Jihaad Campbell, a linebacker, can fly, can run, got some length, and he’s gonna put on some good weight. Then can be versatile enough to go play on the edge and not have to necessarily sub in when you want to put him in spots to go get after the quarterback. Can’t wait to have our defensive staff get their hands on him and let him go to work.”

The five-star is a 6-foot-4 edge with a quick twitch, who can play sideline to sideline. The Alabama native is the true definition of a versatile linebacker prospect with his blend of size and athleticism along with his ability to make plays from the edge and off the ball.
