Kalen DeBoer announces who will start at punter for Alabama football

It is game week for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, and another starting spot on special teams has been filled, per head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Alex Asparuhov will be the Crimson Tide’s starting punter on Saturday versus East Carolina.

Alabama’s starting punter last season was Blake Doud, and he graduated, creating an open spot for someone to take on special teams.

Asparuhov is a sophomore punter that was with the team last season, and he saw action in the UL Monroe game. Prior to the 2025 season starting, Asparuhov suffered a back injury that limited him in 2025 fall camp.

This season, Alabama will have Asparuhov punting, Conor Talty handling field goals and Lorcan Quinn handling the kickoffs.

Alabama will host East Carolina on Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.
