Former Crimson Tide star, Shaun Alexander (RB) and Cornelius Bennett (OLB), were selected as nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Alexander was a star for the Seattle Seahawks, where he made the Pro Bowl in 2003-05. Alexander was the NFL MVP in ’05. His Seahawks also went to the Super Bowl that year, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He set an NFL record that season. Alexander rushed for 28 touchdowns. Over his career, he accumulated 100 rushing touch downs, which placed him at No. 7 on the list of all-time rushing touch downs.
Cornelius Bennett’s storied career started in Buffalo, NY. He was drafted by the Bills, and was part of a team that made it to four straight Super Bowls. Despite losing all four Super Bowls, Bennett was a Pro Bowler in all four of those seasons. He played briefly in Atlanta and Indianapolis as well.
Alabama fans may best remember Cornelius Bennett for “the sack” against Notre Dame. Alexander enjoyed a productive career during his time in Tuscaloosa. Current Tide running back, Damien Harris, constantly hears the comparisons to Alexanders thanks in part to the fact that both are from Kentucky.
Other notable names in the nomination pool for the HOF include Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb, LaDainian Tomlinson and Hines Ward.
