Baltimore Ravens to pick up fifth-year option on linebacker C.J. Mosley

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The former Alabama standout won’t be leaving Baltimore in the near future.

After finishing among the leaders in tackles in each of the last three seasons, head coach John Harbaugh announced via the team’s Twitter handle that he wants C.J. Mosley “to be a Raven for many, many years.”

Per a report from Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens will pick up Mosley’s fifth-year option. He’s been nothing short of consistent for Baltimore, since being taken in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

In three seasons, he’s posted 342 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 23 pass breakups and six interceptions. Mosley, a native of Theodore, Ala., finished the 2016 campaign with 92 tackles (second on team) and team-high six interceptions. He’s been selected to two Pro Bowls (2014, 2016), while earning a spot on the All-Pro Team in 2014 and 2016. Mosley was named to Pro Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie Team in 2014, following his output of 133 total tackles – which was a team high and led all rookies.

Prior to the National Football League, Mosley was a two-time BCS national champion at the University of Alabama. During his four-year career under coach Nick Saban (2010-13), he earned the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and Butkus Award honors in 2013. The instinctive linebacker racked up 108 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five pass breakups and nine quarterback hurries that year.
