Alabama releases statement on Tua Tagovailoa’s injury

Everyone’s worst fear has now been officially confirmed. Tua Tagovailoa will miss the remainder of the 2019 football season. After getting sacked by two Mississippi State linemen, the force of the hits caused Tagovailoa to dislocate his hip. ESPN reported that he was, in fact, yelling in pain and had to be carted off the field.

Following his exit from the field, he was immediately flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Birmingham for tests where the doctors helped treat him.

Below is the statement from Alabama’s Team Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Lyle Cain:

“Tua Tagovailoa sustained a right hip dislocation that was immediately reduced at the stadium. He is undergoing further testing to determine the best course of treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery but will miss the remainder of the season.”

Before the injury, Tagovailoa was impressive and showed no signs that the previous tight rope surgery on his right ankle was bothering him. When he left the field Tagovailoa was 14/18 for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Sophomore Mac Jones took over and did steady work to finish the game. Jones, who started in place of Tagovailoa against Arkansas will now be the main man in the backfield for Alabama.

“We have total confidence in Mac,” Head coach Nick Saban said during his post-game press conference. “I thought Mac did a good job when he went in the game.”

On the season Jones has passed for 472 yards, four touchdowns and is completing 70 percent of his passes.
