One of the reason’s Nick Saban hired David Ballou and Matt Rhea was so the team could approach things with a more innovative and cutting edge way.

It looks like that is already happening during the offseason and in the midst of social distancing as Saban revealed during his teleconference on Thursday that the players are wearing Apple watches to track their workouts.

Saban also appeared to be very pleased so far with the implementation of this these at home workouts, especially from Rhea.

“Dr. Rhea actually got a PhD, so his knowledge and experience in a lot of technical-type testing and stuff that you can do with players and the new training programs that we’re doing, the players really liked,” said Saban. “Hopefully this will help us with some injury prevention and help us be able to perform better when the time comes.

“They were very instrumental in setting this whole program of what we’re doing with the players, in terms of Apple Watches for their workouts, apps on their phones for weight training programs.”

Alabama has even prepared their players for non traditional workouts as they remain distant from the facilities. Even if some players don’t have gyms to go to the Crimson Tide have prepared for this kind of scenario.

“We had issues with some players not having a place to work out because high schools are closed, so we put them on band workout programs,” said Saban. “They’ve done a really, really good job of managing this to this point, and the players have done a good job responding to it.”

Although the future of the season is uncertain Saban and the Crimson Tide will continue to be working towards pursuing another national championship.
