He has been asymptomatic since receiving a positive test for Coronavirus on Wednesday, but there is a lot of speculation on Nick Saban being able to coach Alabama on Saturday versus Georgia.
Coach Saban was evaluated on Thursday and according to Jeff Allen, Alabama's Director of Sports Medicine, he is still not experiencing any symptoms for the virus. He needs three straight negative PCR tests -- while remaining asymptomatic -- in order to leave isolation and rejoin the team.
According to sources, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine has learned that Alabama is working closely with the Southeastern Conference to clear Saban through its protocol.
He appointed Steve Sarkisian to operate the program as he works remotely, but it seems like a real possibility that Saban will be on the sidelines for this matchup. In the event that something occurs and he cannot coach, keep all eyes on Sarkisian and Charles Kelly (associate defensive coordinator).
I have been hearing all week at practice that Kelly's role would increase, if Saban could not coach.
Kelly has 11 years of experience as a defensive play caller, including nine years at the collegiate level. He coached at both Georgia Tech (2012) and Florida State (2014-17), while producing huge numbers for the Seminoles. In 2015, Kelly had its defense allowing 17.5 points per game.
He would be in charge of getting the right personnel on the field, assisting with the play calling, simplifying the defense and making sure the signals are clean against the Bulldogs.
It will be interesting to see if Saban coaches the contest for the Tide.
