4-star defensive back Shawn Jennings of Dadeville became the 19th commitment of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2016 class on Tuesday night when he announced on Twitter that he chose Alabama over Auburn and Memphis. Shawn’s brother Anfernee was part of the 2015 class as a defensive end and signed with the Tide in February.

At 6-2, 205 lbs., Jennings is a player with terrific size for a defensive back and he has a knack for laying the wood. This is just the second defensive back commitment for Alabama’s 2016 class as Shawn joins forces with Amite (LA) safety Joshua Perry.

In his junior season at Dadeville in 2014, Jennings played in 13 games and made 93 tackles (33 solo) to go along with four interceptions and a fumble recovery. Shawn plays on both sides of the football for the Tigers and also scored two touchdowns on offense, rushing for 109 yards and adding another 226 receiving.

Defensive backs are a prized commodity in the framework of a Nick Saban team and Jennings will look to add depth at a position that was seen as lacking by many last season.

Jennings was recruited by Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.
