Three reasons why moving Da’Shawn Hand to OLB would benefit Alabama

The move is not set in stone, but it opens the door for conversation.

Media personnel for Alabama football witnessed creativity at its finest on Wednesday, as head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide had senior defensive end Da’Shawn Hand taking reps with outside linebackers.

Co-defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi appeared to be highly impressed with Hand’s footwork and edge-bending moves, while continuing to mentor Jamey Mosley, Mekhi Brown, VanDarius Cowan, LaBryan Ray and Ben Davis among others at the position.

A combination of both depth and experience is the reason why Alabama is testing Hand as a potential jack linebacker. Hailing from Woodbridge, Va., the five-star was a major signee in the Tide’s 2014 recruiting class. After spending time learning from A’Shawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Jonathan Allen and Dalvin Tomlinson, Hand now has the leadership role to run this year’s group.
