TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Answering his critics from a sub 100-yard passing game last week versus Florida State, Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts opened the first half against Fresno State with three total touchdowns – including two on the ground as the Tide leads 28-3 at halftime.
The sophomore completed 12 of 13 passes for 112 yards, with a 23-yard strike to Hale Hentges for a score.
Despite Hentges not being his first read, Hurts comfortably made progressions in the pocket and found the senior tight end for his first career touchdown reception.
After running back Damien Harris set the tone in week one, Hurts displayed his fifth career 100-yard rushing performance for the home crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium. He turned 119 yards rushing with two touchdowns on nine carries, including a 55-yard score in the first quarter.
Calvin Ridley leads Alabama in receiving with five catches for 45 yards, while seniors Robert Foster and Cam Sims each brought in two passes.
Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has already seen much improvement this week, as the Crimson Tide totaled 297 yards and converted two of four third downs.
The Bulldogs will get the ball to start the second half, but seeing Hurts complete 92.3 percent of his passes and the offense scoring points bodes well moving forward.
