Former Alabama RB Jerome Ford announces transfer destination via Twitter

Butch Dill - USA TODAY Sports

After entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal on Jan. 8, Jerome Ford has found his destination school.

The former Alabama running back announced on Tuesday via Twitter that he’s headed for the American Athletic Conference.

Ford, a native of Seffner, Fla., has committed to the University of Cincinnati following two seasons at Alabama. He was the lone player at his position signed in the Crimson Tide’s 2018 recruiting class and he was listed as an “all-purpose back.”

The former three-star collected 114 yards rushing in 2019 on 24 carries with three touchdowns. He chimes in with 151 yards and three scores on 31 carries, to a tune of 5.02 yards per rush. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds, Ford is a highly productive player with power, speed and elusiveness in open space.

With him being a draft-eligible junior, the Bearcats may lose Michael Warren II.

Cincinnati returns the trio of Gerrid Doaks, Tavion Thomas and Ryan Montgomery; however, they did not have the production of Warren. The junior posted 1,265 yards rushing with 14 touchdowns on 261 carries for a program that finished 11-3 through 14 games last season.

Seeing the possibilities of Najee Harris returning to the Tide, Ford is ready to be a marquee contributor elsewhere.
