In the absence of Christian Harris, Jaylen Moody answered Alabama’s call at LB versus Arkansas

Hopefully, the MRI will not unveil anything too bad for Christian Harris.

The sophomore at weakside linebacker sustained a shoulder injury on the first play of the game versus Arkansas and did not return to action.

Alabama was without its best player at the position, but its “next man up” mentality was carried through a former three-star recruit for the remainder of the matchup. Jaylen Moody, a native of Conway, S.C., was not heavily recruited in the 2018 signing class, however, he made a believer out of Nick Saban. After playing in 27 career games prior to this season and seeing the field through nine games of this campaign, Moody answered the call and performed at a high standard for the Crimson Tide.

He had seven tackles all year, but shared a team-high seven stops in a 52-3 victory over the Razorbacks.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder was strong against the run and displayed lateral quickness to limit K.J. Jefferson, when the talented quarterback tried to create plays on the edge. He assisted the Tide in rendering Kendal Briles and the Hogs to 80 yards rushing (43 carries) and 188 yards offensively. Moody’s play guided Alabama to a season-high four forced turnovers on the road.

He forced one of three fumbles, while recovering a fumble too. Moody shared a tackle for loss and had four solo tackles.

Coach Saban was proud to see the junior step up.

During media availability for players, both Brian Robinson and Phidarian Mathis loved the energy and production from Moody.

According to Mathis, he wants to see more guys emerge on defense.

Should the examination of Harris’ shoulder reveal bad news, look for Moody to get the nod versus Florida next week in the Southeastern Conference Championship showdown.
