Multiple Alabama commits helped the Alabama All-Stars defeat the Mississippi All-Stars 19-7 in the 34th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic Saturday.

This was the Alabama All-Stars first win in the annual event since 2017. Alabama’s 5-Star athlete commit, Ga’Quincy McKinstry was named the MVP for the Alabama All-Stars after an impressive performance.

Here is a deeper look at how each Tide commit performed:

Ga’Quincy McKinstry

McKinstry spent time on both sides of the football throughout the game. His playing time was split pretty equally. The Alabama commit was in his normal environment on the offensive side of the football as he was able to pull in three receptions for 76 yards. McKinstry also was able to use effective ball skills to pull in two Interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown. Unfortunately, his touchdown was called back due to a penalty. He was still credited with an interception on the play. The Pinson Valley product gave up one catch.

Deontae Lawson

Lawson played all over the field for the Alabama All-Stars’ defense. He was used as an inside linebacker, edge rusher and as a tight end in a heavy package. The most impressive thing about Lawson’s performance was the comfortableness he showed dropping back in coverage as an inside linebacker. He was able to show good anticipation and tap into his offensive background to deflect a pass in coverage. Lawson also came up with one sack.

Ian Jackson

Jackson play inside linebacker for the entire game. He finished the game with multiple tackles. The Prattville product proved to be disruptive in coverage as two of his tipped passes resulted in interceptions. Jackson started his high school career at safety. He showed he is still able to float around effectively in  coverage Saturday.

Anquin Barnes

The combination of Barnes and Auburn commit, Lee Hunter was a weapon for the Alabama All-Stars. Barnes was able to use his strength to stand up offensive linemen which plugged up the inside and limited the Mississippi All-Stars running game. Barnes best play happened late in the third quarter as he exploded through the offensive line to take down the quarterback for a sack. This was the speed and quickness Barnes showed throughout the week.

Kadarius Calloway

Calloway spent the entire game on offense. He pulled in one reception for seven yards. This was Calloway’s lone target. The Mississippi All-Stars struggled on offense the entire game.
