Alabama’s defense for next season will be a force in college football.

Nick Saban pulled an elite cornerback from the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Elias “Eli” Ricks, a five-star in the 2020 recruiting cycle, spent two years at Louisiana State University. A California native, Ricks played 16 games for the Tigers. He was limited to six games (shoulder) this season but totaled 31 tackles, five interceptions, and six pass breakups. Ricks turned in a dominant freshman campaign, recording a team-high four picks —  including two for scores.

He announced his decision to commit and transfer to Alabama.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pounder is a high-end player that gives the Crimson Tide a marquee defender.

Alabama could lose Josh Jobe and Jalyn Armour-Davis to the 2022 NFL Draft. If both leave, Ricks enters spring football as a starting corner. His speed, length, athleticism, ball skills, and technique make him a fit for the Tide.

Ricks’ arrival allows for Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry, Khyree Jackson, Terrion Arnold, and Earl Little Jr. to compete for the second spot.

Coach Saban returns Brian Branch, Malachi Moore, Kristian Story, and possibly DeMarcco Hellams for next year.

We could see the return of a no-fly zone secondary for the Crimson Tide. Saban continues to pull experience from the portal.

Ricks was a huge get for Alabama football.
