Alabama offers 6-foot-6 Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland

Aydin Breland poses with Nick Saban duering Alabama visit

Aydin Breland is on pace to be one of the top defensive lineman prospects in the 2024 recruiting class, and his offer list is beginning to reflect that.

Breland picked up an Alabama offer Saturday during an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa. The Mater Dei (CA) High School product previously held offers from Oregon, USC, Tennessee and others. He told Touchdown Alabama he was surprised by his offer from the Crimson Tide.

“When Nick Saban told me he thinks I have a good opportunity to play there and when coach Holmon Wiggins told me about the offer afterward, It was very shocking, and I got very excited,” Breland said.

The California product tweeted he was having a ‘great time’ during his recent unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa. Several elements of the Alabama football program made a good impression on Breland.

“They have great coaches, great people, great facilities, and the medical and academic programs were state of the art,” Breland said. “Everything is state of the art there. I like the campus too. It seemed chill and laid back, but it had an upbeat element to it.”

Mater Dei has Breland listed at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds. The Monarchs allowed him to rush from the edge and from the interior of their defensive front during the 2021 football season. He kept offensive linemen on their feet with his quick burst off the snap of the football.

Saban told Breland he was impressed with the quickness he displayed during his sophomore season.

“Nick Saban said I had good hands, explosive hips, great feet, good quickness and great speed to the ball after reviewing my film,” said Breland.
