Kansas 4-Star LB Dawson Merritt locks in Alabama visit

Dawson Merritt tells Touchdown Alabama he plans to visit Alabama football on March 23.

Merritt is a product of Blue Valley High School in Kansas. He holds more than 25 college football offers, including offers from Alabama, Florida State, Ole Miss and others.

The Crimson Tide offered Merritt earlier this month. He had a previous relationship with members of Alabama’s staff dating back to their time at Washington.

“I know about the winning culture Alabama has, so it’s definitely surreal to earn a scholarship,” Merritt told Touchdown Alabama. “That’s stuff you dream about as a kid.”

The Kansas product is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds with very long arms. He is a versatile linebacker, who makes plays from the edge and off the ball. He excels in space and playing sideline to sideline as an athletic prospect. His style of play works well at linebacker in today’s game with how most teams like to sling the ball around.

He finished the 2023 season with 83 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, seven sacks and three forced fumbles.
