John Gazzaniga announced his intentions to commit to Alabama football as what appears to be a walk-on opportunity.

Gazzaniga is a product of Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. He is a 2025 quarterback prospect, who was rated as a three-star recruit as a prospect. He played under former NFL quarterback, Carson Palmer during the 2024 season.

The 2025 prospect told the Orange County Register in February he was open to an opportunity to play Division 1 football after not signing with a program.

“My phone is always open to colleges to see if I’ll get the opportunity to go straight from high school to a Division I situation,” Gazzaniga said. “I’ve always had the idea that any football is the right football, so that’s where I’m at right now.”

The 6-foot-7 quarterback flashed as a passer of the football, throwing for 1,938 yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 games while completing 59 percent of his passes as a senior. He also showed the ability to run with the football by finishing second on his team in rushing which is impressive for a guy his size.
