Before that incessant Seminole chant rings out through Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, Ty Simpson will take a moment of silence. Before the redshirt junior steps into the spotlight and shoulders the weight of the Alabama program for the first time, he will turn to a familiar passage.
“Micah 5:5 says peace will be through the Lord,” Simpson said. “I kind of take that approach. Before I step on the field, just taking a little second and praying, taking a breath and just being like, ‘He’s with me. Whatever situation happens, He’s going to be beside me. And I’m excited for it.”
Simpson has been waiting for this moment for what seems like his entire life. The son of Tennessee-Martin head coach Jason Simpson grew up cheering on his father’s program and daydreaming of when it would be his turn to lead a college offense at the quarterback position.
